07/08/14 – windsor & eton college

Posted on July 9, 2014

I was very lucky to get a tour of Windsor, a beautiful town a little west of London, and Eton College (a private school, in American speak). I was guided by two good friends who are Old Etonians, so I was able to get a very informative and personal view of the college.

DF9A7492-2This was the first sight I saw walking out of the train station at Windsor: the casual Windsor Castle.

DF9A7490-2Windsor is separated from Eton by the Thames.

DF9A7516-2This was a house at Eton College. It was hard for me to believe that adolescent boys dormed here for school.

DF9A7538-2Eton is pretty damn majestic.

DF9A7530-2Eton has some pretty notable alums (ahem, William and Harry), so I felt like a damn VIP getting a tour of the grounds.

07/07/14 – london: shoreditch

Posted on July 7, 2014

One of my favorite things to do while traveling is really get to know the area that my flat is located in, mainly by getting purposely lost and popping into any coffee shop I may find. I discovered a few great places here in Shoreditch.

timberyard-1Timberyard is located just a few minutes from me and has amazing espresso. I get americanos, which are as close to brewed coffees as I can find sometimes.

DF9A7618-2Another space with a cool vibe– Slate Coffee on Curtain Road. I need to come back and try one of their sandwiches– the Slate BLAT is too tempting.

DF9A7617-2

slateDelicious brewed ice coffee.

DF9A7622-2Insane, amazing, life changing banana bread. Toasted with butter, not too heavy or dense– ideal loaf consistency.

tramshed-2Bonus: not a cafe, but I had a great dinner at Tramshed. The restaurant is a bit trendy, complete with a gallery in the basement. The Damien Hirst installation rounds out the whole vibe. Their food, though, is on par with the decor. This whole roast chicken was out of this world. We devoured it, only bones left. We also ate a yorkshire pudding with chicken patê starter (not pictured, eaten too quickly) that was one of the tastiest things I’ve ever had. This place is a MUST if you come to the area.

i’m back in London for two weeks, and this is the second year in a row i’m spending the 4th of July in England. this trip, i’ve rented a place in shoreditch, in east london, and i’m completely obsessed with the neighborhood. so far, my first few days have involved a lot of eating and catching up with old friends, as well as soaking up the uncharacteristically hot weather in london.

05/18/14 – Cuatro Islas

Posted on May 19, 2014

One of my trips within Leyte was to Cuatro Islas, a grouping of four tiny islands off the coast of Leyte. They’re only accessible by small banana boats, and they’re pretty much uninhabited. The islands are beautiful, though, with white sand and sandbars that go way out into the sea.

05/17/14 – agas-agas bridge

Posted on May 18, 2014

DF9A3987-2This is the Agas-Agas Bridge in Southern Leyte. It’s the tallest bridge in the Philippines, with a zip line that crosses overhead. Its name “Agas-Agas” translates to “falling” or “dripping” like rain, because the old mountain road it replaces used to be plagued with landslides.

Posted on May 12, 2014

DF9A3969-2
This Mother’s Day, I was lucky enough to spend it on the beach in the Philippines with this lovely lady. We spent the day hopping from beach to beach in the southern most tip of Leyte.

DF9A3967-2It was an exhausting day!

DF9A3976-2I’m so incredibly blessed to have such an amazing woman to call my mom. It was even more incredible to spend the holiday in her home country, surrounded by family and such idyllic landscapes. The only way this day would have been perfect is if my sister and dad were with us– we missed them so much!
